Cyprus reports 134 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, 60 patients treated in hospital

Authorities in Cyprus reported 134 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday out of 46,046 tests. The positivity rate stands at 0.29%. No deaths were reported. At the same time 60 patients with the disease are treated in hospital, 23 of whom in a serious condition.

In a press release the Ministry of Health said that 60% of COVID-19 patients in hospital are not vaccinated.

At the same time, 11 post-COVID patients who are no longer infectious continue to be treated, intubated and in a serious condition because of the disease in ICUs.

The total number of deaths caused by the disease remains 557, 354 or 64% men and 203 or 36% women with a median age of 76.3. Total cases since the outbreak of the pandemic have reached 121,270.

Cyprus Security and Defence Academy organises Conference on Climate Change and Security

Cyprus Security and Defence Academy of the Defence Ministry in cooperation with European Security and Defence College and the support of the Cyprus Institute and the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration organises a Conference on Climate Change and Security between 11-12 October.

The Conference will take place at Zenon Coordination Center in Larnaka.

A press release by the Defence Ministry says that the Conference takes place in the framework of Cyprus` initiative on climate change in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

House Speaker meets with Greek MP, stresses role of Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy

House Speaker Annita Demetriou met on Friday with Greek MP Maximos Charakopoulos, Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy. Dr. Charakopoulos is in Cyprus to represent Greek Parliament President Constantinos Tasoulas in annual events organised by the occupied Municiplaity of Mophou.

Cyprus MPs Panikos Leonidou, head of the Cyprus delegation to the Assembly and Christos Orphanides were also present in the meeting.

Demetriou, a press release says, expressed her appreciation of the sound support by the Assembly as regards the solution to the Cyprus problem based on the UN resolutions and the international law. Cyprus Republic issues anti-Navtex for Turkey’s Navtex in its exclusive economic zone

The government of the Cyprus Republic issued an anti-Navtex following Turkey`s Navtex as regards the seismic ship Oruc Reis which will be conducting research in the Eastern Mediterranean until December 16.

Cyprus News Agency has learned from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Larnaka that the Navtex affects to a small degree Cyprus` exclusive economic zone in the north of the island, in an area from occupied Keryneia to Turkey. In the Navtex the Cyprus Republic noted that the Turkish Navtex violates its sovereign rights.

Chief Executive of EDA to pay a two-day official visit to Cyprus

Jirí Šedivý, Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency (EDA) will pay a two day official visit to Cyprus on Monday.

The EDA Chief will address the opening ceremony of a Conference on Climate Change and Security between 11-12 October organised by the Cyprus Security and Defence Academy of the Defence Ministry in cooperation with European Security and Defence College and the support of the Cyprus Institute and the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration.

He will also have talks with Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides and will attend a meeting of representatives of Cypriot companies, research centres and institutions participating in the EDA and (EDA) and the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) programmes with a view to developing European capabilities regarding armament issues.
