Nine individuals and 4 businesses booked for violation of Covid decrees

The Police fined nine people and four businesses for violation of COVID decrees during 3,541 inspections island-wide in the last 24 hours.

A police spokesperson told CNA that in Nicosia a total of 1,651 checks were carried out and one individual was booked. In Limassol after 196 inspections four citizens were fined. The Police conducted 510 checks in Larnaca without booking anyone for breaking the rules. A total of 284 checks were done in Paphos where four establishment owners were fined. Furthermore, four individuals were booked in Famagusta out of 379 checks. No fines were handed out after 306 checks in Morfou, 189 checks conducted by road police, and 17 checks carried out by Marine and Port Police.

FM Christodoulides to travel to Luxembourg, Turkish illegal activities in Varosha on the agenda

Cyprus` Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides travels to Luxembourg on Sunday to participate in the session of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union on Monday.

A Foreign Ministry press release said under the current affairs item on the agenda of the Council it is foreseen that, among other things, the ongoing illegal activities of Turkey in the enclosed area of Famagusta will be discussed, on the basis also of the relevant EU Declaration of 27 July 2021.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will have the opportunity to brief his counterparts on the recent unlawful activities of Turkey in the EEZ of Cyprus.

Turkey continues to blatantly violate the rights of Cypriots, Defence Minister says

Turkey continues to violate the rights and the freedoms of our people, blatantly disregarding the conventions of the European and international law, as well as the UN resolutions, said on Sunday Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides.

The Greek Cypriot side, he added, is called upon with prudence to face the Turkish provocation that violates national and individual dignity and legality.

In a speech during the unveiling of the monument of the fallen and missing commandos at Tilliria, Petrides said the increasing provocations on the part of Turkey in Cyprus’ EEZ, in the fenced area of Famagusta and three days ago in the Rizokarpaso area with the concession of land to the Turkish army, show that the occupation regime continues to violate the rights and freedom of the people, blatantly ignoring European and international law conventions and UN resolutions.

Cyprus government is intensifying efforts in all directions for resumption of talks, says Spokesman

The government is intensifying efforts towards all directions until the conditions that will lead to a resumption of the talks are created, pledged on Sunday Government Spokesman Marios Pelecanos.

In a press release commenting on an interview by Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in today’s “Kathimerini” newspaper, Pelecanos said Tatar confirms that it is the Turkish Cypriot side which is responsible for the fact that the appointment of a UN Special Envy on Cyprus is still pending, despite the agreement in September reached during the lunch of the two leaders with the SG.
