Turkey’s statements not transformed into actions, Cyprus FM says after meeting with Dendias

Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday that Turkey`s statements, are unfortunately, not translated into a cessation of its illegal actions.

In joint statements with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias, after a meeting they held in Athens, Christodoulides said that “the illegal and dangerous actions of Ankara in recent days, both off Crete and in the southwest of Cyprus, prove […] that the fine-sounding declarations, which we have had heard for a while from Turkey, are unfortunately not translated into deeds”.

Additionally, he said that Turkey’s foreign policy follows “a revisionist, neo-Ottoman approach, based primarily on the country`s military power”.

No wrongdoing attributed to President Anastasiades, Presidency says on Pandora Papers

There is no wrongdoing attributed to the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, in reports in relation to the Pandora Papers, the Presidency of the Republic says in a written announcement.

Commenting on reports in the international press, making reference to Cyprus President, the Presidency notes that “Pandora Papers concern documents, dated from 2015 and contain allegations for reproachable activities that concern 35 current or former leaders, as well as 330 public officials.”

The Presidency announcement was issued in the wake of leaked records by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and media partners, including a report in the Guardian, saying that “a law firm founded by the President of Cyprus was accused of hiding the assets of a controversial Russian senator behind fake beneficial owners in a secret report filed with Caribbean

President expects the UNSG to appoint new special envoy on the Cyprus issue

The President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and the Government expect the UN Secretary General to appoint a Special Envoy on the Cyprus issue, who will assist the efforts for the resumption of the negotiation process, Government Spokesman Marios Pelekanos has said.

Pelekanos, who was speaking after a National Council meeting on Monday, also stressed that the proposals submitted by President Anastasiades to the UNSG do not deviate from the High-Level Agreements and UN Security Council resolutions on the Cyprus issue.

President Anastasiades briefed on Monday, during a meeting of the National Council, the top advisory body to the President on Cyprus issue, the leaders of the political parties on the latest developments and on his efforts for the resumption of the negotiations.
