Cyprus Chief Scientist promoted Cyprus as a regional research and innovation hub in Dubai

Cyprus’ Chief Scientist for Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikolas Mastroyiannopoulos participated in the International Technology Exhibition, “Gitex Technology Week” held in Dubai, with the aim to attract investments on technology and start-up companies and to create strong synergies in the field. He was also accompanied by other officials of Cyprus’ Research and Innovation Foundation

According to a press release of the Research and Innovation Foundation, the exhibition, which took place between 17 and 21 October 2021, is one of the largest in the world and was attended by technology companies, international companies and government agencies from more than twenty countries.

General Affairs Council focuses on rule of law, Cyprus among countries in the agenda in November

Ministers responsible for European affairs held a horizontal discussion focusing on developments in the EU in the framework of the annual rule of law dialogue, during a meeting in Luxembourg on Tuesday making use of a Commission report of July 2021. Country specific aspects of the report with a focus on Cyprus, Croatia, Italy, Latvia and Lithuania are set to be discussed in November.

The European Commission’s rule of law report was issued on 20 July 2021.

European Commission asks Turkey to reverse its action in Varosha and support Cyprus problem negotiation

The European Commission has called on Turkey to reverse its actions in Varosha, as well as “actively support the negotiations on a fair, comprehensive and viable settlement of the Cyprus issue within the UN framework, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and in line with the principles on which the EU is founded and the EU acquis”, in its report on the enlargement process released on Tuesday.

The enlargement package on the progress of the Western Balkans and Turkey was presented on Tuesday to the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) in Strasbourg by Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi.

Cyprus Composite Leading Economic Index continues rising but Covid-related uncertainty remains

The Cyprus Composite Leading Economic Index (CCLEI) continued its annual gains in September indicating a recovery of the economy, which depends however on the development associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, University of Cyprus’ Economic Research Centre has said.

The CCLEI, compiled by the ERC with the support of Hellenic Bank, in September 2021 recorded a year on year increase of 11.3%, reaching a level of 114.
