Cyprus stands by the people of Ukraine, House President says

Cyprus House President, Annita Demetriou, has said that Cyprus stands by the people of Ukraine, noting that the Russian invasion continues to create chaos, spreading suffering and despair.

Addressing the annual memorial service for the EOKA anti-colonial struggle hero, Evagoras Pallikarides, in Paphos, Demetriou said that the images of war bring back painful memories for Cyprus and this is why the country, in line with the EU decisions, stands by the tormented people of Ukraine, firmly abiding by the international law, the respect to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all states, but also the fundamental European principles and values.

Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary to represent Minister to Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings

Cyprus Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary, George Panteli, will represent Finance Minister, Constantinos Petrides, to the Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings that will take place on March 14-15.

A press release issued by the Finance Ministry said that during the Eurogroup the Ministers will discuss about the economic situation and the coordination of the fiscal policy in the Eurozone, given the war in Ukraine, about the Banking Union and the enhanced surveillance report on Greece.

The Ministers will also discuss during Ecofin about the economic and financial impact of the sanctions imposed on Russia after its military offensive against Ukraine, and will be briefed on the decisions taken during the informal European Council that was held in Versailles.

It is absurd that Turkey calls for an end to the war, ignoring its own invasion of Cyprus, Interior Minister says

Cyprus Minister of the Interior, Nicos Nouris, said on Sunday that it is absurd that Turkey calls on Russia and Ukraine to stop the war and contribute to world peace, while at the same time it ignores its own invasion of Cyprus in 1974 and the horror and brutality which this invasion left behind, as well as the ongoing crime against Cyprus.

He added that Turkey assumes the role of someone who will bring balance, continuing this absurd course, paralleling even its own demand to join the EU with Ukraine`s case.

And this when as a country candidate for EU membership and a NATO member state, it consciously chooses not to abide by the decisions and the responsibilities stemming by a series of agreements and commitments, he noted.

Cyprus announces 3 deaths due to Covid-19 and 2,866 new cases on Sunday

Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Sunday three new deaths due to COVID-19 and 2,314 new cases, bringing the total number of deaths and infections recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic to 902 and 353,002 respectively.

Hospitalizations amounted to 107, while patients treated in serious condition in Intensive Treatment Units and Increased Care Units were 17.

A total of 68,993 tests were carried out today and the overall daily positivity rate stands at 3.
