Intensive meetings for Greek Foreign Minister in New York, including with Cypriot and Egyptian counterparts

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias is in New York today to participate in the High Level Week of the 76th UN General Assembly.

In New York, he will hold a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings and will participate in the meetings of the Greek Prime Minister from Thursday onwards.

The Greek Foreign Minister`s meetings today include a bilateral meeting with his Cypriot counterpart, Nikos Christodoulides.

Cyprus Transport Minister to attend EU Informal Council in Slovenia, discuss air connectivity with counterparts

Cyprus Transport, Communications and Works Minister, Yiannis Karousos, travels on Monday to Slovenia to attend the Informal Council of the EU Transport and Energy Ministers and a high level meeting concerning the Trans-European Transport Network in the framework of the EU Slovenian Presidency.

Karousos will have meetings with some of his counterparts to promote the Declaration on Air Connectivity that was drafted at Cyprus’ initiative together with 7 other EU member states.

A PIO press release said that that Informal Meeting will discuss European Commission proposals `Fit for 55` aiming at reducing pollutants by 55% by 2030, as well as the revision of the Regulation on trans-european transport networks.

Transitioning to a circular economy the answer to the liner model, Minister of Energy says

The answer to the problem of the linear economic model is the transition to a circular economy, where the value of raw materials and natural resources remains in the economy for as long as possible and waste production is kept to a minimum, said Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Natasa Pilides.

Speaking during the presentation of the National Action Plan for the Promotion and Strengthening of the Circular Economy, at a workshop on the “Transition to the Circular Economy: Opportunities and Challenges for Industry”, in Nicosia, the Minister first referred to the problems of the linear economic model.

She noted that the transition from the linear to the circular model creates opportunities for economic transformation, for sustainable development, for achieving more productivity and more competitive advantages.

World Tourism Day 2021 theme coincides with our National Tourism Strategy DepMin for Tourism says

The 2021 World Tourism Day theme titled “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” coincide with Cyprus’ 2030 National Strategy for Tourism, Deputy Ministry for Tourism has said in a press release issued on the occasion of the World Tourism Day celebrated on September 27.

Presidential Commissioner Photiou highlights role of diaspora and UK in resolving Cyprus issue

Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou has underlined the important role that the Cypriot diaspora in the UK, the UK Government and the wider international community can play in resolving issues pertaining to Cyprus problem.

Addressing Cypriot media in London, in the middle of a five-day long working visit to the British capital which concludes on Wednesday, Photiou particularly highlighted his concerns regarding the issue of people gone missing following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.

He spoke of the reminder of the “enormous pain” of the missing persons’ relatives following his meeting with the organisation representing them in the UK.

Cyprus reports one death and 156 new Covid cases on Monday, 93 patients hospitalised

Cyprus reported the death of a 92-year-old female and 156 new Covid-19 cases bringing the total tally of deaths and infection due to Covid since the inception of the pandemic to 548 and 119,113 respectively, while 93 infected patients are treated in public hospitals of whom 40 in serious condition.

In a press release the Ministry of Health says that 76.35% of people treated in hospitals are not vaccinated.

The President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades received on Monday the Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, in New York.

A statement by the Presidency says that during the meeting, the President of the Republic referred to the destruction of the cultural heritage in the occupied areas of Cyprus by Turkey.

Azoulay referred to the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the Organization`s founding and invited President Anastasiadis to attend the celebrations that will take place in Paris, on November 12 and in which the UN Secretary General will also participate.

Flu shots to start early October, Ministry of Health announces

The Ministry of Health has announced that it will start early October the flu vaccine for the vulnerable groups of society.

It said the aim is the timely protection of the vulnerable elderly from seasonal infections ahead of the winter season. For this reason, the Ministry will start vaccinations early October.

During a meeting, Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantela had with Health Ministry and Health Insurance Organisation officials, he was thoroughly informed on the procedure to be followed in vaccinating those eligible.

Vaccinations for Influenza A will take place at personal doctors’ clinics, following the same procedure as last year with more information released next week.

Cyprus President pays tribute to the victims of 9/11

President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades visited Monday the September 11 Memorial in NYC.

“Cyprus pays tribute to the victims of 9/11. My prayers are with Joe Biden and the American people, as I attend the commemoration ceremony at the September 11Memorial, marking the 20th Anniversary of the horrendous terrorist attacks.Our belief in democracy remains stronger than ever”, the President posted on his twitter account.

President is in NYC to address the UN General Assembly. He will also have a meeting with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and a lunch with the UN Secretary General and the Turkish-Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.

Cyprus police hand out fines to 43 citizens and 4 establishment owners for violating COVID-19 measures

Cyprus police fined 43 citizens and 4 establishment owners during the last 24 hours for violating the measures aiming to contain the spread of COVID-19. A total of 4,213 checks were conducted.

A police spokesperson told CNA that citizens were reported for not wearing a face mask.

In Nicosia a total of 1809 checks were conducted, and 9 citizens and 2 coffee shop owners were booked. One of the shop owners was handed out a 500 euros fine and the other a 750 euros fine, because their employees did not have a safepass.

In Limassol 22 citizens were booked in the framework of 253 checks that were carried out.

In Larnaca the police conducted 700 checks and booked 3 citizens. In Paphos the police carried out 147 checks and fined 3 citizens, while in Famagusta they conducted 639 checks and booked 6 citizens and 2 kiosk owners. The police
