Cyprus Police report 26 individuals and 9 shop owners over violations of COVID measures

Cyprus Police reported 26 individuals and 9 shop owners for violation of protective measures to contain the spread of the Covid pandemic.

sA Police spokesperson told CNA that in the last 24 hours ending at 6:00 local time Saturday, police officers carried out a total of 3.256 checks across the government-controlled areas.

Most fines were issued to individuals not wearing protective masks in public spaces and establishments.

In Nicosia, the Police carried out 865 checks reporting four individuals, in Limassol 455 checks were carried out with 15 individuals and one shop owner reported, in Larnaca 2 individuals and another shop owner were reported following 753 checks, in Pafos 1 individual and 7 shops owners were reported after 183 checks, in Famagusta 680 checks were carried out with 4 individuals reported, while 191 checks were made in Morphou

The UN must create a climate for constructive negotiations, House President says

It is imperative that the UN create a climate that will contribute to constructive negotiations conducted in good faith, President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou, said on Sunday. A new round of negotiations, she stressed, should be carried out on equal terms, without blackmail, intimidation and threats against any side.

Demetriou said the Greek Cypriot side maintained its firm position regarding immediate resumption of talks with a real prospect of success.

Greece and Cyprus reaffirm close economic cooperation at 85th Thessaloniki International Fair

Cyprus Minister of Finance Constantinos Petrides and his Greek counterpart Christos Staikouras have reaffirmed the two countries’ close cooperation on economic policy.

The two Ministers inaugurated on Saturday the pavilion of the Greek Finance Ministry at the 85th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), Greece’s greatest exhibition event held between 11 and 19 September.

Staikouras said that they both took part in the recent meetings of ECOFIN and the Eurogroup where they elaborated on common positions and priorities regarding Europe’s economic architecture and mainly on the economic policies in Greece and Cyprus.

President on official visit to Bahrain, meeting with King to take place Monday

Cyprus’ President Nicos Anastasiades arrived Sunday afternoon in Bahrain’s capital Manama on an official visit, accompanied by members of the Cabinet.

An announcement issued by the Presidency says that on Monday the President will be received by King Hamad bin Isa Khalifa, at the Gudhaibiya Palace. The two heads of state will head expanded talks between delegations of the two countries.
