More than 600 nursing home residents vaccinated with the third dose, programme continues, says Health Ministry

More than 660 vaccinations with the third dose have been carried out so far at nursing homes and according to planning, vaccinations will continue with health professionals.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is getting ready to start calling the immunosuppressed to schedule their appointments.

Speaking to CN?, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Margarita Kyriakou said the programme which has been prepared by the relevant Ministry, is progressing as normal and since 3rd September when the scheduling started for the third dose, a total of 667 people have received the booster shot in all districts.

Vaccinations resume on Saturday, Ministry of Health announces

The Ministry of Health announced that it is resuming the service where vaccinations are held on Saturdays at COVID-19 vaccination centres throughout the government-controlled areas of the Republic.

The decision was taken to encourage all those aged 12 and over to inoculate.

The centres will operate from 0800 until 1200 and will serve all those who make an appointment through the vaccination portal or at the Walk-In centres.

Cyprus Police reported 32 individuals and 4 shop owners for violation of protective measures to contain the spread of the Covid pandemic.

A Police spokesperson told CNA that in the last 24 hours ending on 6:00 local time Thursday, the Force carried out a total of 2,570 checks throughout the government-controlled areas.

In Nicosia, the Police carried out 793 checks reporting 7 individuals and three shop owners, in Limassol 340 checks were carried out with 9 individuals reported and one shop owner fined, in Larnaca 5 individuals were reported following 514 checks, in Pafos 1 individual was reported after 125 checks, in Famagusta 476 checks were carried out with 10 individuals reported, while 84 checks were made in Morphou with no fines issued.

Cyprus reports three deaths from COVID-19, 174 cases, 119 patients are in hospital

Authorities in Cyprus announced three more deaths from COVID-19 bringing the total to 526 and 174 new cases out of 56,956 tests. The positivity rate stands at 0.31%. At the same time, 119 people are being treated in hospitals across the island, 37 of whom in a serious condition.

In a press release the Ministry of Health said that 80.68% of patients with COVID-19 who are treated in hospital have not been vaccinated. Twelve post-COVID patients who are no longer infectious, continue to be intubated in ICUs in a serious condition, it added.

The deaths announced concern a man aged 99 and a woman aged 74 who passed away at Limassol General Hospital on September 8, and another man aged 64 who passed away today at Nicosia General Hospital`s ICU.

Total deaths attributed to COVID-19 are 526, 339 or 64% men and 187 or 36% women, with a median age of 76.

Cyprus MP stresses contribution of G/c and T/c women organizations in efforts for reunification

Irene Charalambidou, Cypriot Member of the Parliament and Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), stressed the important contribution of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot women organizations in the efforts for reunification and peace in Cyprus.

According to an announcement by the Parliament, Charalambidou participated in a teleconference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), during which the members discussed the implementation of UNSC resolution 1325.

Charalambidou, in her intervention before the Assembly stressed the need for effective implementation of the resolution, and pointed out that Cyprus continues to suffer from the consequences of the Turkish invasion and occupation.

Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Research holds meetings in Greece with a view to expand bilateral cooperation

Cyprus Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Kyriakos Kokkinos, had on Thursday meetings in Athens during which he discussed with his interlocutors about expanding the cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in the fields of digital transformation.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Ministry, Kokkinos and the Deputy Ministry`s Permanent Secretary, Stelios Chimonas discussed with Greek officials the issue of speeding up digital switchover, as a basic pillar for recovery, development and welfare.

Cyprus FinMin travels to Slovenia for Eurogroup, then to Greece for Thessaloniki International Fair

Cyprus Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides travels to Slovenia on Thursday where he will take part in the informal Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings on Friday followed by a visit to Greece on Saturday where he will attend the opening of the 85th Thessaloniki International Fair.

EU Finance Ministers are set to focus on the medium term pandemic impact in relation to the necessary policy actions to avoid deviations and matters to do with EU common taxation, a Finance Ministry press release says.

Ministers will also discuss solvency situation of the corporate sector and potential measures to facilitate the corporate restructuring and economic adjustment in the euro area in the post-COVID recovery period.

FinMin welcomes announcement on disbursement of pre-financing from RRF, urges Parliament to join forces with government

Cyprus in the red for another week on the ECDC’s epidemiological map

Cyprus remains in the zone of “red” countries and a country with a high notification rate, testing rate and test positivity for COVID-19, according to the latest map released on Thursday by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Greece, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Iceland, Estonia, Lithuania, Croatia, Slovenia and Ireland remain in the “red”. Some areas in Ireland, Greece and France remain in “deep red”, but the situation has improved in France and Greece.

Cyprus Presidency welcomes disbursement of €157 mn from EU Recovery and Resilience Facility

The Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus has welcomed the announcement of the disbursement of €157 million in pre-financing, as part of the funds and loans to be provided under the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), noting that this is a “historic” day for the country and reiterated the government`s commitment to implement the necessary reforms which will lead Cyprus to a new era.

“Today is a historic day for our country,” the Presidency said in a press release referring to the announcement by European Commission President Ursula von der Layen on the disbursement of the funds.

The funds, according to the press release, are 157 million euros which are disbursed to Cyprus by way of pre-financing, adding that the amount is equal to 13% of the grants and loans allocated to the country.
