One death and 136 Covid-19 cases were announced on Saturday

The Ministry of Health announced on Saturday the death of 64-year-old woman bringing the total number of deaths recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus to 528. Also 136 (positivity rate: 0,19%) new Covid-19 cases were announced. The total number of coronavirus cases recorded in Cyprus rises to 117,831.

The woman died on Friday, in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Out of the 528 fatalities recorded, 339 were male (64%), and 16 females. Their median age is 76.4 years.

Additionally, 106 patients are being treated in hospitals of whom 43 in a serious condition. Sixteen of them are intubated. The percentage of unvaccinated patients stands at 83.9%.

A total of 70,628 tests were carried out on Saturday. Of them 4,584 were PCR and 66,044 rapid tests out of which 136 positives were detected as follows:

Cyprus Police reports 17 individuals and 7 shop owners for violation of COVID measures

Cyprus Police reported 16 individuals and 7 shop owners for violation of protective measures to contain the spread of the Covid pandemic.

A Police spokesperson told CNA that in the last 24 hours ending on 6:00 local time Saturday, the Force carried out a total of 3.688 checks throughout the government-controlled areas.

In Nicosia, the Police carried out 1.591 checks reporting one individual and one shop owners, in Limassol 199 checks were carried out with 7 individuals reported, in Larnaca 3 individuals were reported following 500 checks, in Pafos 2 individuals and 6 shops owners were reported after 576 checks, in Famagusta 520 checks were carried out with 3 individuals reported, while 79 checks were made in Morphou with no fines issued.

Event pays tribute to US firefighters who perished on 9/11 and honors Cyprus’ Fire Service

On the 20th anniversary of the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks, an event was held at Lefkotheo stadium in Nicosia to pay tribute to the 343 American firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty on that day and also to honor Cypriot fire fighters who battled wildfires in Cyprus and Greece this summer.

Dozens of people, among them Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides, Minister of Justice and Public Order Stefi Drakos, US Ambassador to Nicosia Judith Garber, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Fire Service and the National Guard attended the event organized by the US Embassy in Nicosia and walked a 2071 step challenge, the same number of steps those 343 first responders climbed on September 11th 2001 to reach the top of the World Trade Center to save peoples’ lives
