Cyprus President meets with AIPAC delegation

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades received on Monday, in New York, a delegation of the American-Jewish organization AIPAC, (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) headed by its President, Betsy Berns Korn.

According to a statement by the Presidency, during the meeting, the President of the Republic referred to the cooperation and strategic relationship AIPAC and Cyprus have developed in recent years, and in the framework of the Cyprus-Greece-Israel tripartite partnership, as well as their cooperation with the US.

On the agenda were also the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Contribution of industrial sector to GDP could increase, Industry Minister says

Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Natasa Pilides, said Monday that the contribution of the industrial sector to the country’s GDP, which currently stands at 8%, could increase, speaking at a press conference during which she took stock of the implementation of Cyprus’ new industrial policy 2019-2030, over the past two years 2020-2021. The press conference was part of the second Industry Week launched between 20-24 September.

The aim of the new industrial policy is to increase the sector`s contribution to GDP, increase productivity, innovation and exports.

House Budgetary Committee examines fourth supplementary budget for 2021

The Cyprus parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budgetary Affairs examined on Monday the fourth supplementary budget for 2021 amounting to €91.7 million, providing for expenditure associated with the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic impact.

This is the fourth supplementary budget associated with the pandemic and has been approved by the Council of Ministers during its meeting on September 2, with total public expenditure included in the four supplementary budgets amounting to €510 million.
