The Delta (Indian) variant of COVID-19 is completely predominant in the community, according to the Health Ministry.

A press release issued on Saturday said the Delta mutation is completely predominant in the community, according to the samples sent overseas for sequencing for the period 5-18 July through the ECDC programme.

The sequencing was successful in detecting the variant in the 74 samples sent from all districts from 5-18 July.

Cyprus reports two COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, 288 hospitalisations, 527 new cases

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday the death of two patients to COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 421, while 288 people are in state hospitals 82 of whom in a serious condition. It is noted that 91,13 of those hospitalised are not vaccinated.

In addition, 527 new coronavirus cases were detected. The positivity rate stands at 0,56%. The total number of cases since the pandemic broke out reached 101.946.

The patients who succumbed are two men aged 68 and 82. Deaths rose to 421 (276 men and 145 women). Their median age is 77.2.

Out of the 82 patients who are in a critical condition, 39 are intubated. In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 71 patients, in the Nicosia General Hospital 88, in the Limassol General Hospital 81, in the Larnaka General Hospital 28, in the Pafos General Hospital 13 and in the Makario Hos

Those who have declined vaccination should pay for rapid tests, says Health Minister

From the moment unvaccinated citizens decided against the COVID-19 vaccine, they should have to pay for their rapid tests, said on Saturday Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas.

In statements after a visit to the Emergency Room of Nicosia General Hospital, the Minister said that the decision to start charging citizens for rapid tests from 1st of August was taken after all information was examined. So far, we have paid 26 million euros for the rapid tests, excluding all other costs, he noted.

Ministry announces three deaths to COVID19 on Friday, 279 people in hospitals, 635 new infections

The Ministry of Health announced on Friday the death of three patients to COVID19, while 279 people are receiving treatment in hospitals, 85 of whom in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, 635 new coronavirus infections were diagnosed in the last 24 hours with positivity rate being 0.86%.

Since the pandemic broke out 101,419 people have been infected, 419 of whom died, 274 men and 145 women, with their median age being 77.2 years old.

The three people who died were two men 59 and 83 years old and a woman 77 years old.

Out of the 85 patients who are in a critical condition 36 are intubated. In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 70 patients, in the Nicosia General Hospital 85, in the Limassol General Hospital 72, in the Larnaka General Hospital 37, 11 are being treated in the Pafos General Hospital and 4 in the Makario Hospital

Decrease reported in the number of COVID-19 cases diagnosed, deaths high, National Surveillance report shows

A decrease has been reported in the number of COVID-19 cases diagnosed with signs of stabilization in all districts, according to data in the National Surveillance Report issued on Friday by the Ministry of Health. At the same time, the number of deaths with COVID-19 an underlying cause increased by 113% during the 29th week of 2021, in relation to the 28th.

The report also indicates that the infection rate in the community remains very high with the cumulative impact of 14 days approaching 1500 / 100,000 population (1403.5 / 100,000).

Health Ministry launches procedure for unvaccinated people to be eligible for free rapid tests

People who remain unvaccinated for medical reasons will be able to get a certificate, allowing them to undergo free rapid antigen tests, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday, while explaining the procedure.

New measures adopted on Friday by the Cabinet provide that those eligible for free rapid tests are minors up to 17 years old, persons 18 years of age and older who can not get the jab by providing a medical certificate, pregnant women who provide a medical certificate saying they can not be vaccinated for medical reasons, those vaccinated with the first jab for a period of three weeks after the first dose, those who concluded their vaccination but wish to get tested in order to monitor their health or other reasons, and citizens holding a COVID-19 recovery certificate within the last 180 days

Cabinet gives green light for vaccination of people 12 years and over

Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipantelas has announced that beginning on Monday, 2 of August, citizens 12 years of age and older can be vaccinated with mRna technology vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna), following a recommendation by the Scientific Advisory Committee on the coronavirus and the Cyprus Paediatric Society.

In statements on Friday after the Council of Ministers` meeting, Hadjipantelas said that vaccination is voluntary and parents or legal guardians` consent is needed.

He noted that in several countries of the European Union, such as France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania and Greece as of today, they are vaccinating children aged 12-15, in an effort to achieve greater protection of the population.

Yellow warning for extreme high temperature

The Meteorology Department issued on Friday a yellow warning for extreme high temperature valid from 30/7/2021 at 2100 until 1700 on the 31/7/2021.

It says that overnight the minimum temperature will fall to around 27 degrees inland and to around 25 locally over the western and northern coastal areas.

On Saturday the maximum temperature will rise to around 41 degrees inland and to around 33 over Troodos highest peaks.
