Government examines legal action following incident with Turkish vessel

The Cyprus government will examine taking legal action following the incident with a Turkish vessel at Kato Pyrgos area, Defense Minister Charalampos Petrides said on Saturday.

On Friday, a Turkish vessel opened fire against a Port police coastguard which was conducting a routine patrol in the Kato Pyrgos Tylliria coast.

Replying to questions about the new provocation, the Minister said that Turkey must respect the international law and the Law of the Sea, adding that the government condemns this new unlawful provocation and has made representations in political and diplomatic level and will examine legal actions as well.

No prerequisite by Turkey for the Cyprus dialogue to resume will be accepted, says President

I will not accept any prerequisite put forward by Turkey in order for the Cyprus dialogue to resume, the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has said.

Speaking to the press on Friday evening, during an event in Limassol, the President noted that there is common ground for the talks to resume and this common ground is the UN Resolutions, the UN Security Council decisions, the EU acquis and everything that has been agreed so far as well as the international law.

The President pointed out that the occupying force needs to realize once and for all that what is fair cannot be imposed by military means but by the UN Chart and the EU values and principles.

Cyprus reports 928 new COVID cases on Saturday, 203 patients in hospitals

Cyprus Health Ministry on Saturday announced 928 new covid cases with the positivity rate to stand at 1,27%. The patients in hospitals have reached 203 of whom 54 in serious condition. According to the figures, 90,2% of the patients in hospitals have not been vaccinated.

No death was reported today and the total number since the pandemic broke out is 384 of whom 256 are male (67%), and 128 female (33%) and the median age is 77,2 years.

Today`s cases were detected from a total of 72,874 tests (rapid and PCR). The total number of cases is 90,338.

From the 72,874 tests, 7,032 were PCR and 65,842 rapid and the cases were detected as follows:

2 from 53 samples from the contact tracing process,

12 from 2,572 tests in airports,

218 from 4,159 tests done on private initiative,

13 from 228 tests done at Microbiological

Cyprus reaches half a million inoculations with 1st dose, more than 60% concluded vaccinations

Cyprus is reaching half a million people who got their 1st dose of COVID vaccines, updated figures by the Health Ministry show.

Figures until July 16 show that 499,985 people (69.7%) got the 1st dose while 60.7% concluded the vaccination scheme.

As regards ages and administration of 1st dose, figures until Friday show that 20.7% of 16-17 years old got their 1st dose (13.3% in July 9), in ages 18-19 the percentage is 35.2% (30.7% July 9) in ages 20-29 is 43.8% (39.4% July 9), in ages 30-39 stands at 59.4% (56% July 9), in ages 40-49 is 78.6% (75.6% July 9), in ages 50-59 is 76.2% (73.9% July 9), in ages 60-69 this percentage stands at 84.7% (83.3% July 9), in 70-79 is 93.1% (92.4 July 9) and in ages over 80 is 93.7% (93% July 9).

District-wise the figures (July 16) are 74.7% in Famagusta, 63.7% in Larnaka, 67% in Limassol, 70.4% in Nicosia and

Citizens embrace walk-in vaccinations centers, says Health Minister

Citizens have embraced the walk-in vaccination centers and the turnout is very encouraging, Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantela said.

Speaking during a visit at the walk-in center that operates at Larnaka Port, the Minister said that those vaccinated will surpass 70% by Monday adding that the aim is to vaccinate people who cannot visit any center across the island. He explained that citizens were given phone numbers and they can contact them and a health official will visit them at home to give them the jab.

Health Ministry releases contact numbers for rescheduling of COVID appointments

Health Ministry on Saturday announced contact numbers for citizens who wish to reschedule their appointment for the 2nd dose of Covid vaccines.

Citizens who missed their appointment or postponed it can now contact 22 605 400, 97 710 101 and 97 710 202, and state their ID number, birth date, date and time of the appointment , center and type of vaccine as well as their contact number (preferably cell phone).

The Ministry clarifies that the email vacrescheduling@mphs.
