High level of cybersecurity needed for the transition to digital age, President says

The transition of Cyprus to the digital age requires high levels of cyber security for everyone, President Nicos Anastasiades has said.

President Anastasiades, who received on Wednesday the annual report of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation George Michaelides, expressed his satisfaction for the work done, noting the great importance of providing a high level of security in the field of electronic communications.

According to a written statement by the Deputy Government Spokesperson Niovi Parisinou, the President asked to be kept informed, as the field of electronic communications and cybersecurity issues are of crucial importance for all governments and contribute to the development of modern countries.

Foreign Minister travels to France for GYMNICH

Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides travels to Brest, France on Thursday to attend the informal Council of the EU FMs (Gymnich).

EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence will have a working lunch during which they will focus on the Union`s defence and security policy.

A press release by the MFA says that they will also exchange views on Eastern Europe and EU`s challenges as regards eastern neighborhood policy.

Passengers travelling to Cyprus can take a PCR or a rapid test, 72 and 24 hours prior to departure respectively

Passengers aged 12 years old and over who arrive in Cyprus as of January 14 at 0500 local time, will have the option of taking a PCR test carried out up to 72 hours before their departure or an antigen rapid test carried out up to 24 hours before their departure.

The Council of Ministers approved on Wednesday a proposal of the Transport, Communications and Works Ministry for the amendment of the measure, implemented at the points of entry to the Republic, requiring individuals who travel to Cyprus to present a negative result of a PCR test.

More specifically, starting from Friday January 14th 2022, at 0500 local time, passengers aged 12 years old and over, regardless of their vaccination status, who wish to travel to the Republic of Cyprus, have the option of choosing between a PCR test done up to 72 hours before their departure or an antigen rapid test carr

Meteorology Department issues yellow warning for prolonged rainfall and possible thunderstorms

Department of Meteorology issued yellow warning for prolonged rain and possible heavy thunderstorms starting from midnight tonight until 18:00 local time Thursday.

The Department said that a combination of at times prolonged rain and possibly isolated heavy thunderstorms is expected to affect the area, initially mainly in the western and northern parts of the island but also from noon onwards inland areas and areas over the eastern and southeastern coast,

Total precipitation is likely to locally exceed 55 millimetres per hours, the Department said.

Cyprus to tap international markets with ten-year bond

Cyprus is expected to tap the international markets on Thursday with the issuance of a €1 billion ten-year European Medium-Term Note (EMTN).

The Ministry of Finance’s Public Debt Management Office in a press release said “the Republic of Cyprus, rated BBB- (positive) by Standard and Poor`s, Ba1 (stable) by Moody`s, BBB- (stable) by Fitch and BBBL (positive) by DBRS, has mandated Barclays, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE and HSBC to lead manage a single-tranche EUR-denominated RegS CACs benchmark 10yr issuance in registered form under the Issuer`s EMTN Programme. Listing London Stock Exchange (Regulated Market).

Cyprus records four new deaths and 3,197 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, hospitalisations increase to 266

Cypriot health authorities on Wednesday announced four new deaths due to COVID-19 and 3,197 new cases, with total deaths and infections since the outbreak of the pandemic reaching 669 and 215,271 respectively.

Furthermore, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, hospitalisations rose to 266 while patients treated in serious conditions in Intensive Treatment Units and Increased Care Units rising to 93 from 76 the day before.

A total of 112,233 tests were carried out today, with the daily positivity rate declining to 2.

Cabinet decides for ‘test to stay’ in schools, allows visits to homes for the elders under preconditions (Repeat)

Cyprus` Council of Ministers decided on Wednesday the implementation of the “test to stay” measure in primary and secondary schools from January 17 until February 16, 2022, so that schools will remain open and COVID-19 cases will be traced in a timely manner.

Moreover, the Cabinet decided to lift as of January 13, 2022, the restriction of visits to homes for the elders and closed structures. Entrance to these places will be allowed only to persons who have concluded their vaccination scheme within the last seven months, or have a COVID-19 recovery certificate, as long as not more than 90 days passed since they had the virus, or have taken the booster dose.
