Police fine 13 citizens and 11 establishments for COVID violations

Cyprus Police fined 13 citizens and 11 establishments for violations of COVID measures in a total of 2,980 checks across the island the last 24 hours. Police announced that 1,745 checks were made for safepass.

Most of the citizens were handed fines because of no use of face mask.

In Limassol Police a fine of 1,000 euros was issued for a kiosk owner for failing to make checks for the validity of safepass.

Another fine of 1,000 euros was issued against an owner of a supermarket who allowed a larger number of customers in his establishment than the number allowed by the protocols.

Moreover, the Police found citizens without safepass in two establishments and against the owners of these places fines of 1,000 and 5,000 euros were issued.

Covid situation in Cyprus manageable, says Health Minister

The situation with the Covid pandemic is manageable in Cyprus, Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas said Sunday, adding that in cooperation with State Health Services Organization (SHSO) “we have a plan A, and a plan B and a plan C”.

In statements to the press Sunday, during a visit to Pafos General Hospital, the Minister said that at this particular moment the situation is manageable but it is assessed a few times within a 24 hours period.

Accompanied by Head of the Board of SHSO and Executive Director of Limassol-Pafos directorate, the Minister said that the purpose of the visit is to evaluate the readiness of the hospital and to express his gratitude to all health professionals.

Last day of 2021 vaccinations of general population reached 69.6%

Cyprus vaccination coverage in general population reached 69.6% in the last day of 2021, the Health Ministry announced. The percentage refers to fully vaccinated individuals.

In particular in ages 18 and over the coverage rose to 83%, in ages 16-17 is at 48.1% and in ages 12-15 is at 36.3%.

By December 31st, 297.589 citizens were administered the booster shot.

A walk in and by appointment centre operates today at the State Fair only for children 5 – 11. Health Minister and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry will be visiting this centre. The vaccinations are carried out with the cooperation of the paediatric society.

The Minister will also visit today the General Hospitals in Limassol and Pafos.

?micron variant will be fully dominant in Cyprus the next days, says Minister

Omicron variant is 80% dominant in Cyprus right now but the next days is expected to be fully dominant, Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipantelas said, after a visit at Limassol General Hospital.

He said that he thanked the health professionals for all their efforts and added that he had the chance to visit the COVID ward. Replying to a question, the Minister said that so far no patients who Omicron variant are being treated in the ward.

One death and 3,538 new COVID cases announced on Sunday, 203 hospitalizations

Cyprus Health Ministry announed on Sunday one death from COVID and 3,538 new cases. The patients in hospitals are 203. Positivity rate is now at 3,87%. The new cases were detected from a total of 91,482 tests. Total deaths rose to 639 and cases to

172,697.

The Ministry announced that 84 are in serious condition. Figures show that 83,26% of patients are unvaccinated. Moreover 16 post-COVID who are no longer infectious, are intubated in serious condition in an ICU.

The deceased is a female 85 years old who passed away today at the General Hospital in Larnaka. Of the 639 deaths, 405 are male (63,4%), and 234 female (36,6%) and the median age is 76 years old.

Thirty-three patients are intubated, 5 are in an ICU and 46 in an ACU.
