Famagusta Hospital has reached its full capacity with 75 COVID patients, Hadjiyianni says

Amalia Hadjiyianni, Scientific Director of the Famagusta and Larnaca hospitals, has said that the Famagusta General Hospital, which is operating as a coronavirus reference hospital, has reached its full capacity, with 75 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment.

In statements to CNA on Monday, Hadjiyianni said that the youngest patient is 23 years old and the oldest is 90. The patients` median age is 59 years.

Cyprus announces new country categorisation concerning COVID-19

New changes have been announced by the Cyprus Ministry of Health as regards the categorisation of countries based on new epidemiological risk assessment and they will come into effect from Thursday, 5th August.

Specifically, Lichtenstein from the Orange category will be moved to Green. Italy and Lithuania are moved from the Green category to orange while Luxembourg will also move from Red category to Orange.

Vaccination portal opens for appointments of 12-15 year olds

Appointments for the vaccination of 12-15 year-olds against COVID19 were made available as of Monday through the Vaccination Portal.

The vaccination of children is voluntary and it will be done after the consent of the parents/guardians.

The decision to proceed with vaccination of the 12-15 year-olds was taken last week by the Council of Ministers, taking into account the recommendations of the Cyprus Pediatric Society and the Scientific Advisory Committee, and in an effort to increase the vaccination coverage of the population.

Cyprus reports four COVID-19 deaths and 493 new cases on Monday, while 287 patients are in hospital

The Ministry of Health announced on Monday four COVID-19 deaths bringing the total number of deaths in Cyprus to 426, while 287 patients with the disease are treated in state hospitals, 88 of whom in a serious condition. It is noted that 88.62% of those hospitalised are not vaccinated.

In addition, 493 new coronavirus cases were detected. The positivity rate stands at 1.47%. The total number of cases since the pandemic broke out reached 102,716.

The patients who succumbed are a 81 year old woman, a 64 year old man, a 68 year old man, who were treated at Limassol General and a 76 year old man who was treated at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the General Hospital of Nicosia

Deaths rose to 426 (280 men and 146 women). Their median age is 77.1.

Heat wave continues in Cyprus on Tuesday

Cyprus is set to continue to experience scorching heat on Tuesday with the temperature expected to rise to 43 degrees Celsius, while the danger of forest fires remains high.

In particular, the Cyprus Meteorology Department issued an orange high temperature warning valid from 2200 hours on Monday evening until 1700 hours local time on Tuesday.

On Monday evening, the warning said, the minimum temperature in inland and coastal areas is not expected to fall below 26 degrees Celsius.

Cyprus and Greece enhance cooperation in the field of Research and Innovation

Enhancing the cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in the field of Research and Innovation dominated the agenda of the contacts of the Chief Scientist for Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikolas Mastroyiannopoulos, with government and business officials in Athens from 28 to 30 July.
