Cyprus Permanent Representative denounces Turkish violations and Turkish moves on Varosha in letter to UNSG

Cyprus Permanent Representative to the UN, Andreas Hadjichrysanthou, denounced in a letter to the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, dated 6 August 2021, violations of the national airspace of Cyprus, infringements of international air traffic regulations in the flight information region and the illegal use of closed ports and airports in Cyprus by Turkey during April and May 2021, referring at the same time to the illegal visit of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the occupied areas of Cyprus in July and the announcements of the Turkish side regarding the fenced off city of Famagusta (Varosha). The violations are recorded in four separate documents attached to the letter.

Two COVID-19 patients died and 355 new cases were traced, Health Ministry announced on Tuesday

Two more COVID-19 patients have died, while 355 new coronavirus cases were traced on Tuesday, Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Tuesday. The positivity rate stands at 0.68%.

The two persons who have died are a 77 year old man who passed away on August 23 at Nicosia General Hospital and a 37 year old man who passed away on Tuesday also at Nicosia General Hospital.

The number of people who have died due to COVID-19 is now 486 and the number of confirmed cases 112,021.

A total of 184 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized, 72 of them in a critical condition, while 84.79% of the patients who are treated in hospital have not been vaccinated. Thirty five of the patients whose condition is critical are intubated, 7 are treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit but are not intubated and 30 in an Increased Care Unit.

Banks expect stricter lending criteria for households and increase in loan demand, CBC survey says

EMA adopts recommendations to increase manufacturing capacity and supply of COVID-19 vaccines

EMA’s human medicines committee (CHMP) has adopted recommendations that will increase manufacturing capacity and supply of COVID-19 vaccines in the EU.

CHMP has approved an additional manufacturing site for the production of Comirnaty, the COVID-19 vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer. The site, located in Saint Rémy sur Avre, France, is operated by Delpharm and will manufacture finished product.

Cyprus Health Ministry says 72.3% of adults, over 25% of 16-17 year-olds are fully vaccinated

Cyprus` Ministry of Health has said that 72.3% of adults and more than 25% of the ages of 16-17 have completed their vaccination regime.

In a press release the Ministry said that until Monday 77.6% of the adult population (18+) was vaccinated with at least the first dose and 72.3% with both doses.

At least the first dose was given to 34.4% of people aged 16-17 years and 25.6% of this age group completed their vaccination. Between the ages of 12-15, the first dose was given to 14% of those who started vaccinating on August 2 when the COVID vaccine was offered to these ages.

Pafos still holds the reign with the highest percentage of vaccinated people with 88.5% having received the first dose. Famagusta ranks second with 85.5%, followed by Nicosia and Limassol with 77.4% and 76% respectively. Larnaca district maintains the lowest percentage, 71.

Cyprus police fine 32 individuals and 2 establishment owners for violating measures against Covid

Cyprus Police fined 32 individuals and the owners or managers of two establishments over violating measured to contain the spread of the Covid pandemic.

A police spokesperson told CNA that in the last 24hours that ended on 06:00 local time, the Force carried out 3,151 checks throughout the government-controlled areas.

In Nicosia, 1,012 checks were carried out with 4 individuals and 1 shop owner reported, in Limassol 318 checks were carried out with 14 individuals and 1 shop owner booked, in Larnaca 4 individuals were reported following 473 checks, in Pafos 5 individuals were reported after 241 checks, in Famagusta 661 checks were carried out with 5 individuals reported, while in Morphou no violations were found during 178 checks.

Cabinet approves agreements on Cyprus’ recovery and resilience plan (Correction)

Finnish FM expresses support to greater stability and prosperity in Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean region

It has always been and will be in the interest of Finland to support a greater stability and prosperity of Cyprus and the whole Eastern Mediterranean region, Finnish Foreign Minister, Pekka Haavisto, said in recorded video message by which he sent his greetings to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, to honor the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Cyprus.

Cyprus National Guard Chief discusses military cooperation and hybrid security challenges with his Egyptian counterpart

Chief of Cyprus National Guard Lieutenant General Dimokritos Zervakis discussed on Tuesday with his Egyptian counterpart about ongoing activities in the framework of the military cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt as well as about the hybrid security challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Zervakis wrote on his Twitter account that he had a “phone call today with my counterpart and dear friend General Hegazy. We discussed ongoing activities of our military cooperation – and the hybrid security challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean,” he noted.

Six investors shortlisted for the sale of loans by state-owned asset manager KEDIPES

Six investors have been shortlisted in the context of the project “Ledra” concerning a sale a €477 million package of performing loans by state-owned asset manager KEDIPES.

The deadline for the transaction provides that final binding offers will be submitted by the end of October.

Sources told CNA that at the initial stage 13 investors entered the virtual data room, with six remaining in the short list and will enjoy full disclosure concerning the data associated with the loans.
