President Anastasiades discharged after minor spinal surgery

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has been discharged from hospital after Friday’s successful minor spinal surgery.

The President was discharged on Saturday morning after remaining in hospital overnight for observation, according to Government Spokesperson Kyriacos Koushos. He is said to be in good condition.

Cyprus records no deaths, 62 new Covid cases on Saturday, 44 patients in hospital

Cyprus recorded 62 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday out of 41,226 tests carried out, while no deaths were announced due to the disease. The positivity rate from rapid tests stands at 0.15% while 44 patients are treated in hospital, 21 of whom in a serious condition.

The total number of deaths from COVID-19 remains 378, 254 or 64% men and 124 or 33% women, with 77 being the median age of the deceased. Total cases since the outbreak of the pandemic have reached 73,582, the Ministry of Health said in a press release.

Forty four patients with COVID-19 are treated in state hospitals, 21 of whom in a serous condition; nine are intubated while one person is treated at an ICU but does not breath with the help of a ventilator. Another 11 patients are being treated in an ACU.

COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet, warns Tsioutis, urges young people to get vaccinated

The COVID-19 pandemic is not over, warned head of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Constantinos Tsioutis on Saturday and urged young people to get vaccinated to avoid an outbreak similar to that of the British variant which hit Cyprus in March.

In statements to CNA, asked about the Indian strain, Tsioutis said that it has been proven that the Indian strain (Delta) is more infectious from other strains. This means, that it can infect on average, a very large number of people in a shorter time of space.

ECT 3rd League kicks off in Limassol

The European Championships Third League kick off in Limassol, on Saturday afternoon with the Men’s hammer throw Final.
