Cyprus reports 3 deaths from COVID and 835 new cases on Monday, 179 patients in hospitals

Sixty patients are in serious condition and 15 post covid patients no longer infectious are intubated and getting treatment at an ICU.Today`s tests (rapid and PCR) are 106,483.

The deceased are a male 68 years old who passed away today at the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital, an 83 year old female who died today at Larnaka Hospital and a male 92 years old who passed away yesterday at Famagusta Reference Hospital.

Of the 623 deaths, 397 are male (63,7%),and 226 female (36,3%) and the median age is 75.9 years.

EC supported Turkish Cypriot civil society with 2.5 mln euro during 3rd quarter of 2021

The European Commission has signed a total of 12 new civil society grants, amounting to 2.5 million euros, during the 3rd quarter of 2021, towards the support of civil society organisations in the Turkish Cypriot community, in order to to strengthen the role of civil society in the community, promote EU values and a conducive environment for dialogue and co-operation between the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities, according to a press release,

In the last quarter of 2021, the European Commission has signed 11 new contracts with different Turkish Cypriot civil society organisations for a total of 1.8 million euro as well as a direct grant of 700,000 euro for the Human Rights Platform association.

President Anastasiades expresses hope that international actors will realize the negative stance of Turkey

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has expressed on Monday the hope that all international actors involved in the Cyprus issue will soon realize that Turkey`s negative stance on Cyprus issue is not in line with the UN resolutions and conventions.

In his statements entering the 38th Annual General Assembly of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities and asked about the appointment by the United Nations of a Special Envoy for the Cyprus issue, President Anastasiades said that an appointment until end of the year, should be considered final.

He said that he hopes that the UN Secretary General, those involved in the Cyprus issue and the EU as well, will realise that the unacceptable situation cannot be continued and that the unacceptable demands and the provocative actions of Turkey are in contrast with the UN resolutions and conventions.

Romania in amber zone in new country categorization, in effect December 23

Romania is moved to amber zone in the new categorization of countries announced by Cyprus authorities on Monday. The new categorization is put into effect December 23.

Following a decision of the Council of Ministers, on 18 February 2021, regarding the Action Plan for the gradual resumption of flights and the re-opening of airports, the Epidemiological Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Health has made a re-evaluation of the epidemiological situation in various countries as regards COVID-19.

European Medicines Agency recommends the authorisation of the Novavax vaccine against COVID-19

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has announced it is recommending granting a conditional marketing authorisation for Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine Nuvaxovid (also known as NVX-CoV2373) to prevent COVID-19 in people from 18 years of age.

Nuvaxovid is a protein-based vaccine and is the fifth vaccine recommended in the EU for preventing COVID-19. This vaccine is given as two injections, usually into the muscle of the upper arm, 3 weeks apart.

Compliance with COVID measures in place, otherwise might have to take stricter, says President

President Nicos Anastasiades sent a clear and sound message on Monday as regards with COVID measures, saying that if we do not comply with the ones in place, there is no doubt we will be led to stricter. He also expressed the hope that Cyprus will not go into a new lockdown.

Speaking to the press before the 38th Annual Assembly of the Union of Municipalities, the President said that there is an outbreak all over the world, therefore we all need to be vigilant.
