Nicosia: The number of citizens of the Republic of Cyprus registered to vote in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections is reported to be 568,587, as announced by the Ministry of Interior Affairs. This figure includes enclaved voters from the Kyrenia and Famagusta Districts, who reside in areas not under the control of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, this total includes 859 Turkish Cypriot voters who possess identity cards issued by the Republic of Cyprus and have residential addresses in government-controlled areas. The distribution of registered voters across districts shows 198,376 citizens in Nicosia, 117,052 in Limassol, 116,345 in Famagusta, 60,561 in Larnaca, 47,429 in Paphos, and 28,824 in Kyrenia.
Following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, approximately 20,000 Greek Cypriots remained in their homes within the occupied territories. Over time, the number of these 'enclaved' individuals has decreased due to challenging living conditions and restrictions affecting their daily lives.
The elections are scheduled for May 24, with polling stations set to open from 7 am to 6 pm. Parliamentary elections in Cyprus occur every five years.
