Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area surrounding Cyprus, covering an 8-kilometer stretch seawards, effective from 1200 on September 12, 2026, until 1200 on September 13, 2026. The forecast highlights a seasonal low-pressure system influencing the region, with predominantly fine weather expected over coastal areas. However, there is a possibility of increased low cloud coverage during the night and morning, which may lead to local mist in the eastern and southern parts of the island.
According to Cyprus News Agency, visibility is predicted to remain good but could deteriorate to moderate or poor in misty conditions. The sea surface temperature is recorded at 29°C, with no warnings issued for the period. The atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast was measured at 1012 hPa.
The forecast specifies varying wind patterns across different coastal regions. On the west coast, winds will shift from west to northwest in the afternoon, reaching Beaufort scale 3 to 4, and locally 4 to 5, resulting in smooth to slight sea conditions. Similar patterns are expected during the night and morning, with winds changing direction. The south coast will experience southwest to west winds in the afternoon, transitioning to variable winds overnight and into the morning. The east coast will see south to southwest winds initially, with variable winds expected later. The north coast will experience southwest to northwest winds in the afternoon, with changes occurring through the night and morning, maintaining smooth to slight sea conditions throughout.
