Nicosia: The government will announce a new housing scheme in the coming days, according to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides. Addressing an awards ceremony for High-Achieving Graduates from Mountain Communities for the 2025-2026 school year, the President revealed that "in just a few days time, we will announce another new housing scheme, tailored to the specific needs of the people in mountain communities."
According to Cyprus News Agency, the scheme was developed by the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities in collaboration with the Minister of the Interior. The President emphasized the importance of listening to the community to ensure that the schemes align with their needs and expectations.
The President also highlighted two housing schemes recently approved by the Council of Ministers. One scheme allocates 570 state-owned plots at a reduced price, while the other offers incentives for families to utilize existing dwellings or plots, even if building regulations have been exceeded.
In addition to the upcoming housing plan for mountain communities, the President mentioned plans for new announcements aimed at strengthening the welfare state. He noted the private sector's willingness to support these efforts.
Regarding the broader housing issue, the President described it as a significant challenge for Cyprus, Greece, and Europe. He stated that since the start of his administration, over ten housing schemes have been launched, with more than 300 million euros invested and over 5,500 new housing units under construction.
