Culture Deputy Minister Represents Cyprus at Youth Olympic Games Torch Ceremony

Athens: Deputy Minister of Culture, Clea Hadjistephanou Papaellina, attended the torch-lighting and handover ceremony for the IV Youth Olympic Games in Athens on Thursday, representing the Republic of Cyprus.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Papaellina emphasized the significance of the Torch-lighting ceremony, highlighting its role in showcasing the enduring power of culture and sport. She noted that it serves to convey the message that Olympic ideals continue to provide guidance and inspiration for the younger generation.

The ceremony for the Flame of the IV Youth Olympic Games 'Dakar 2026' took place at the historic Panathenaic Stadium. This event was graced by the presence of Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee. The music that accompanied the proceedings was composed by the renowned Cypriot composer Marios Joannou Elia, while Artemis Ignatiou took charge of the artistic direction and choreography.

Papaellina also pointed out that the ceremony is a potent reminder of how culture and sport can unite different peoples. Currently, the flame is en route to Dakar, symbolically carrying the noble values of Olympism to its destination.
