Nicosia: The share of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in Cyprus stood at 17.1% in 2025, according to data published by Eurostat on Thursday. Overall, the number of people affected in Cyprus amounted to 167,000 in 2025. Compared with 2024, the rate remained unchanged, while an increase of around 3,000 people was recorded.
According to Cyprus News Agency, by gender, in Cyprus in 2025, there were 75,000 men (15.5%) and 93,000 women (18.7%) who were at risk of poverty or social exclusion. At the European Union level, in 2025, 92.7 million people, or 20.9% of the population, were at risk of poverty or social exclusion. The rate shows a marginal decrease compared with 2024, when it stood at 21.0% (93.3 million people). Of the 92.7 million, 43,025,000 are men and 49,720,000 are women.
According to Eurostat, these individuals live in households facing at least one of three factors: risk of poverty, severe material and social deprivation, or very low work intensity.
