New delhi: The European Union is set to endorse the Leaders' Declaration at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, emphasizing the importance of sharing AI benefits globally. Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, will endorse the declaration on behalf of the EU, reinforcing commitments to international cooperation and global AI governance.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Executive Vice-President Virkkunen, alongside India's Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, launched the European Legal Gateway Office. This initiative aims to connect European companies with India's ICT talent, a proposal announced by President Ursula von der Leyen at the 16th EU-India Summit. The summit also saw the launch of the Frontier AI Grand Challenge, an EU-wide competition to develop large-scale European AI models.
Two calls for expression of interest were announced as part of the Commission's Apply AI Strategy. The first invites healthcare organizations across Europe to join an AI-powered advanced screening centers network. The second invites European AI actors to participate in an expert forum on frontier AI to map existing efforts and identify opportunities and challenges.
Executive Vice-President Virkkunen highlighted Europe's progress towards becoming an AI continent, emphasizing international cooperation and the attractiveness of the EU for talent. The European Legal Gateway Office is expected to enhance talent mobility between the EU and India. Commissioner Magnus Brunner noted the initiative's role in connecting Indian ICT talent with EU opportunities, facilitating growth.
The declaration will soon be available online.
