European Commission Disburses £175.4 Million to Denmark Under Recovery and Resilience Facility

Brussels: Today, the European Commission disbursed £175.4 million to Denmark, marking the fourth payment under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The Facility is the centrepiece of NextGenerationEU, the Commission's post-pandemic programme aimed at supporting Member States' recovery, economic growth, and competitiveness.

According to Cyprus News Agency, measures linked to this payment include investments in sustainability, such as the construction of 45 km of cycling infrastructure, increasing offshore wind capacity by 4 GW, and fostering the organic transition in public canteens. Denmark submitted its fourth payment request under the RRF to the Commission on 30 September 2025, comprising five milestones and eight targets covering one reform and 12 investments.

The Commission approved Denmark's payment request on 4 November 2025. With the Economic and Financial Committee of the Council issuing a favourable opinion, the Commission has now disbursed the funds. Denmark's Recovery and Resilience Plan is financed by £1.63 billion in grants, and today's payment raises the total funds disbursed to Denmark to 78% of the plan's allocated amount, with 76% of all the milestones and targets fulfilled.

Payments to Denmark under the RRF are performance-based, dependent on the successful implementation of national plans. Member States must implement all outstanding milestones and targets by August 2026 and submit the last payment requests by the end of September, ahead of the Facility's closure at the end of 2026.

The European Commission has also launched the 2026 calls for proposals to support campaigns promoting sustainable and high-quality EU agri-food products within the EU and globally. Up to £160 million will be available through grants to co-finance programmes proposed by producer groups and other agri-food trade bodies. The calls are part of the 2026 promotion policy work programme, which will allocate £205 million to co-fund promotion activities for EU agri-food products, the highest allocation ever for enhancing consumer awareness of European agricultural products.

The work programme includes initiatives directly run by the Commission, such as promotion campaigns in third countries, participation in major international agri-food trade fairs, visits by Commissioner Christophe Hansen to third countries, and the development of market entry handbooks for exporters. Highlighted by President Ursula von der Leyen in her State of the Union address, the agri-food promotion policy is a political priority for the European Union.

The calls will remain open for applications for three months, open to a wide range of eligible operators across the EU. An information day will take place in Brussels and online on 27 and 28 January 2026.
