Cyprus to Conduct Joint Military Exercises with Greece and Israel

Nicosia: Cyprus, Greece, and Israel are set to engage in a series of joint military exercises, as announced by Cyprus' Defence Minister, Vassilis Palmas. These exercises are part of the 2026 planning activities coordinated by the General Staff and involve collaborations with allies and countries with which Cyprus maintains amiable relations.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Palmas elaborated that these drills fall under the framework of bilateral, trilateral, or other forms of military training. The focus will be on joint training of military forces, officer training, and comprehensive military exercises aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the armed forces of the three nations.

Palmas further mentioned that while the formal agreements for these exercises are set for 2026, there are plans to conduct similar exercises with Egypt, Jordan, and other friendly countries in the upcoming year. He recalled a recent joint naval exercise conducted with Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt at the end of November.

The Defence Minister also highlighted that an agreement was signed in Cyprus involving military officers from Cyprus, Greece, and Israel, which pertains to the aforementioned exercises. However, he noted that specific dates for these exercises have yet to be determined and will be set by the military staffs of the respective countries based on operational needs and conditions.
