Nicosia: Cyprus’ Council of Ministers has approved an emergency financial aid package of 50,000 euros to assist the families affected by the June 22 terrorist attack on Mar Elias Church in Damascus. The funds are intended to address immediate needs such as medical care, psychological support, and repairs for damage incurred during the attack.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the financial aid will be distributed through the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch. Cyprus’ Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, communicated with Patriarch John X (Yazigi) to express Cyprus’ unwavering support and called for a thorough investigation by Syrian authorities to ensure the safety of the Christian community.
Minister Kombos highlighted the necessity of supporting Syria’s Christian population during the recent EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on June 23. The decision to provide financial assistance reflects Cyprus’ commitment to aiding communities affected by terrorist acts and fostering regional stability.
