Police report 10 individuals and 5 shop owners over Covid protective measures violation

Cyprus Police reported 10 individuals and 5 shop owners for violating the measures aiming to contain the spread of COVID pandemic.

A Police Spokesperson told CNA that in the last 24 hours ending on 06:00 local time Sunday, the Force carried out 2,627 checks throughout the government-controlled areas.

In Nicosia a total of 1,097 checks were carried out with no reports issued, in Limassol 310 with 2 individuals and 2 shop owners booked, in Larnaca 1 individual was reported following 414 checks, in Pafos 2 shop owners were booked after 130 checks, in Famagusta the police reported 7 individuals after 482 checks and in the Morphou region 111 checks were carried out with no reports issued.

Flights to and from Cyprus not affected so far despite Covid Omicron variant

Flights to and from Cyprus airports continue as scheduled despite a wave of flight cancelations globally due to the Covid Omicron variant.

News agencies reported that around 6,300 flights globally have been cancelled over the Weekend of Christmas due to the Omicron variant which disrupted flights as air carriers’ employees and mainly pilots were in isolation.

However, the wave of flight cancellation has not affected Cyprus so far, as sources for Hermes Airports, the operator of Cyprus’ two international airports, told CNA that no flights have been cancelled until now nor delays in flights to and from the Larnaca and Pafos airports have been observed.

Loan restructurings in the Cyprus banking system reach a historic high due to Covid

Loan restructurings in the Cypriot banking system edged close to €2 billion in the first ten months of 2021, marking the highest figure according to Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) records which began in end-2014.

According to CBC data, restructured loans in the end of October rose to €1.98 billion as banks accelerated loan restructurings following the termination of the payment holiday in the end of 2020 enforced due to the Covid-pandemic.

President Anastasiades expresses sorrow over the death of Karolos Papoulias

?arolos Papoulias was a firm friend of Cyprus and a supporter of its rights, said President Nicos Anastasiades, expressing his sorrow for the death of former President of the Hellenic Republic.

Anastasiades posted on his twitter that Papoulias death causes sorrow to all and expressed his condolences to his family.

Greece`s former President passed away at the age of 92 the day after Christmas.

Cyprus reports 912 new COVID cases on Sunday and 162 hospitalizations, positivity rate at 1,7%

Cyprus Health Ministry on Sunday announced 912 new COVID cases and 162 hospitalizations. The positivity rate stands at 1,7%. No deaths were reported today and total deaths since the pandemic broke out are 628 and of cases rose to 150,760.

Today`s new cases were detected from a total of 53,715 tests (rapid and PCR).

According to the Ministry, 74 patients are in serious condition and 80,87% of all patients are unvaccinated. Twenty-six of the 74 patients are intubated, 5 are in an ICU and 43 in ACUs.

Moreover 15 post-COVID who are no longer infectious, are intubated in serious condition in an ICU.

Figures show that 401 deaths are male (63,9%), and 227 female (36,1%) and the median age is 75,9 years.

The Ministry announce that 4,535 tests were PCR and 49,180 rapid tests and the new cases were detected as follows:

One death and 268 new COVID-19 cases reported in Cyprus on Christmas Day

Cypriot health authorities announced on Saturday one death due to COVID-19 and 268 new infections, bringing the total number of fatalities and COVID cases since the outbreak of the pandemic to 628 and 149,848 respectively.

Furthermore, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, hospitalisations reached 157 with 63 patients treated in serious conditions in ICUs and ACUs. A total of 16,231 PCR tests were carried out today, with the daily positivity rate reaching 1.

Online shopping in Cyprus increases significantly in the first quarter of 2021

The percentage of people who made online purchases showed a significant increase, which reached 48% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to 34.1% in the corresponding period last year, according to data by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

 

At the same time during the period of April 2020 – March 2021 the percentage of individuals who used the internet for interaction with public authorities has increased to 57.

Countercyclical capital buffer remains at 0%, Central Bank announces

The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) says that in accordance with the methodology described in its macroprudential policy, it did not deem necessary to adjust the countercyclical capital buffer (CCyB) rate for the period 1 January 2022 – 31 March 2022 and, therefore, the CCyB rate remains at 0% of the total risk exposure amount of each licensed credit institution in the Republic.

 

Based on the time series ending on 30 June 2021: The gap between the credit-to-GDP ratio and its long term trend (credit-to-GDP gap) based on the broad credit definition is -63.7.
