Unstable Weather Conditions Forecasted for Cyprus Sea Areas

Nicosia: The Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, indicating that an unstable air mass is set to influence the region. Residents and seafarers have been advised to prepare for locally increased cloud cover, with a possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms. This weather pattern is expected to persist during the forecast period, which spans from midday on May 24, 2026, to midday on May 25, 2026. Additionally, low clouds are anticipated overnight and at dawn, particularly over the southern and eastern parts of the island, where there is a risk of local mist or isolated fog patches.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issue was recorded at 1016 hPa. Visibility in most areas is expected to be good, although it may reduce to moderate levels locally. The sea surface temperature is currently at 20°C, and there are no weather warnings in effect.

The forecast details variable wind conditions across different coastal areas. On the west coast, winds will vary from southwest to northwest during the afternoon, with speeds of 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale. The sea state is anticipated to be smooth to slight. Similar conditions are expected overnight, with winds shifting to northwest to northeast, and by morning, winds are predicted to become variable, moving to the southwest at speeds of 3 to 4.

For the south coast, afternoon winds will range from southwest to west, reaching speeds of 5 to 6, resulting in a sea state that is slight to moderate in some areas. Overnight, winds will shift to the southwest and northwest at speeds of 3 to 4. By morning, variable winds will settle into a south to southwest direction at speeds of 3 to 4.

Along the east coast, afternoon winds will blow from the southwest at speeds of 4 to 5, with a smooth to slight sea state. Overnight, winds will shift to the southwest to west at speed 3. By morning, the winds will become variable, later moving from southeast to south at speeds of 3 to 4.

Finally, for the north coast, afternoon winds will transition from southwest to northwest with speeds reaching up to 5, resulting in a smooth to slightly rough sea state. Overnight, southeast to southwest winds are expected, initially at speeds of 4, which will decrease to 3. By morning, winds will stabilize to a south to southwest direction, gradually shifting to southwest to northwest at speeds of 3 to 4.
