Nicosia: Artwork created by Cypriot students within the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU is featured in the Presidency's events as memorabilia or as art installations in highly symbolic locations, such as the Presidential Palace and the Filoxenia conference centre.
According to Cyprus News Agency, a desk calendar, commemorative gifts to be offered to officials and visitors, as well as Green Living Sculptures are some of the items created by students. The Ministry of Education and the Secretariat of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency 2026 issued a press release detailing the initiatives. The Ministry, in cooperation with the Secretariat, launched a school competition to create a calendar featuring children's logos of the Cyprus Presidency. The winning logo adorns the cover of the calendar, which was produced specifically for the Cyprus Presidency 2026, while other distinguished works were incorporated into its remaining pages.
As part of the school actions of the Cyprus Presidency, a Fine and Applied Arts Competition was also carried out among students from secondary education schools. The outcome of the competition was an art exhibition entitled 'Europe in Cyprus', hosted at the Filoxenia conference centre in the framework of the Informal Meeting of Ministers of Education, on 29 - 30 January 2026. The works presented in the exhibition draw thematic references from the history, mythology, and culture of Cyprus, highlighting values shared by all Member States of the EU, such as unity, dialogue, and solidarity.
Another competition invited students to design and create original gifts to be offered as commemorative items at events and conferences held within the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Among the projects selected was a bronze bookmark, which was offered as a commemorative gift to the participants of the Education and Training High Level Meeting, on 1 - 2 December 2025, and the Informal Meeting of Ministers of Education in Nicosia, on 29 - 30 January 2026.
In addition, the project 'Make Your Own Pastelaki' was distinguished. It was prepared by students of the Hospitality and Catering Professions sector of the Technical and Vocational School of Education and Training (TVET) 'Makarios III' of Nicosia and will be offered at the Informal Meeting of the Ministers of Environment, on 5 - 6 February 2026. Also distinguished was the wooden figure 'I Choratissa', created by Fashion Design and Marketing and Furniture Design and Wooden Constructions students of the A' TVET School of Nicosia, which will be offered at the Meeting of Directors-General for Vocational Education Training (DGVT), to be held on 30 - 31 March 2026.
In addition, students of the Special School 'Evangelismos', together with their teachers, took part in a creative process of familiarisation with the EU and the construction of a symbolic handmade gift (a coaster), which will be offered as a commemorative item to participants of the Informal Meeting of the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council, to be held on 12 - 13 February 2026. A similar process is currently being followed by the Nicosia Special School, which is creating another symbolic gift to be presented at the Meeting of Directors-General for Schools (DG Schools), to be held on 18-19 February 2026. This is a small wooden desk paperweight with an embossed decoration depicting Cyprus and the logo of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
Also, teachers and students of the Agriculture and Mechanical Engineering departments of the Regional Agricultural, Technical and Vocational School of Education and Training of Famagusta/Avgorou and the Agriculture department of Solea Lyceum created six Green Living Sculptures, which have been installed in the Presidential Palace and the Filoxenia conference centre.
