Defence Minister Highlights Cyprus EU Presidency’s Role in Enhancing European Defence

Brussels: Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas, participating as the keynote speaker at the European Defence Agency's Annual Conference, emphasized Cyprus' leadership role during its EU Presidency, focusing on advancing defence initiatives. In his address, Palmas outlined Cyprus' priorities, including supporting Ukraine, bolstering maritime security, enhancing the European Defence Industry, and improving military mobility and humanitarian readiness.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Palmas stressed the urgency of transitioning from planning to implementation amid Europe's security challenges. He highlighted the European Defence Agency's crucial role in fostering cooperation and implementing the European Council's strategic guidelines. Palmas affirmed Cyprus' commitment to enhancing the Agency's role and promoting a unified European defence framework, underlining the necessity of cooperation for Europe's security.

The conference featured addresses by key figures such as High Representative Kaja Kallas, Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, and EDA Executive Director Andr© Denk, alongside other defence ministers and European officials engaging in roundtable discussions.
