Readiness by Cyprus, India to Strengthen Ties, President Christodoulides Says

Cyprus: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday expressed his belief that his visit to India would further strengthen cooperation between the two countries, referring to the readiness of both sides to deepen bilateral relations even more.

According to Cyprus News Agency, in statements to journalists upon his arrival at the presentation of the new tourism development strategy of the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia, and when asked about his departure for India on Wednesday, the President described the visit as 'an extremely important visit'. This follows the Prime Minister of India's visit to Cyprus last June, during which, he said, the foundations were laid for a strategic partnership, not only on political matters, but also in the fields of the economy, investment, and tourism.

He noted that he would visit Mumbai and then New Delhi, adding that he has 'a full programme', 'which, I am certain, will further enhance the results we are already seeing following the Prime Minister's visit to our country last June.'

During the visit, he said, several agreements will be signed, 'clearly demonstrating the readiness and political will of both countries to strengthen our relations even further.'

President Christodoulides also recalled the signing of 'the very important' EU-India trade agreement. He noted that he was travelling to India also as the President of the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU, 'therefore there are several developments', he said, noting that there will be a number of announcements.
