President Proposes Three Dates for Meeting with Turkish Cypriot Leader

Nicosia: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, has proposed three dates for a new meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhrman. Government Spokesperson, Constantinos Letymbiotis, informed the Cyprus News Agency that all of the proposed dates are in February.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou has communicated these dates to Turkish Cypriot negotiator Mehmet Dana. However, there has been no response from the Turkish Cypriot side so far. The meeting is anticipated to be hosted by the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Cyprus, Khassim Diagne.

The leaders recently engaged in separate meetings with the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Mara Angela Holgun, and participated in a joint meeting earlier this week. Cyprus, divided since 1974 following Turkey's invasion and occupation of its northern third, has seen numerous rounds of UN-led peace talks that have yet to yield positive outcomes.

In 2025, the Secretary-General organized two informal meetings on Cyprus, in March in Geneva and in July in New York. A tripartite meeting with Cyprus leaders was also held in late September, coinciding with the end of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week. Mara Angela Holgun is actively engaging with the parties, while former European Commissioner Johannes Hahn, appointed by the Commission as Special Envoy for Cyprus, is expected to assist in the settlement process alongside Holgun.
