Cyprus: President Nikos Christodoulides had a telephone conversation with the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, following a drone attack on the British Bases in Akrotiri. He briefed his Lebanese counterpart on the information gathered, as reported by Cyprus News Agency.
According to Cyprus News Agency, sources indicated that there is currently no information suggesting a threat to the Republic's infrastructure. The infrastructure is equipped with systems capable of intercepting missiles and drones, and there is ongoing cooperation and coordination with the British Bases, as well as other partners and allies, to exchange information on the situation.
The same sources revealed that the "Andreas Papandreou" air base is not considered a target and could serve as a transit station for various EU and non-EU countries to repatriate their citizens, a role it has fulfilled in the past. Some of these countries might have adversarial relations with Iran, prompting the Republic of Cyprus to ensure security to prevent any potential incidents.
Cyprus' airspace remains operational, with continuous assessments being conducted based on information about drone activity in the region. Although some airlines have temporarily suspended their flight schedules for 24 hours based on their assessments, sources clarified that any decision to close Cyprus' airspace would be made in consultation with the relevant European organizations.
