Nicosia: A series of meetings were held on Wednesday at the Presidential Palace under the leadership of President Nikos Christodoulides, addressing key issues such as pension reform, Cyprus' energy plans, and the management of water resources.
According to Cyprus News Agency, discussions on pension reform included the President, the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, and the Minister of Finance. The focus was on the preparatory work completed so far, the objectives of enhancing pension adequacy and sustainability, and the implementation timeline.
In a meeting addressing water issues, attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and the Environment, updates were provided on the severe drought affecting Cyprus. Discussions included measures involving desalination units, recycled water, and demand management to meet water and irrigation needs.
The Cyprus News Agency sources also reported on discussions regarding energy issues. President Christodoulides, along with the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was briefed on the progress of actions related to the LNG terminal in Vassiliko. Efforts to reduce energy costs and ensure electricity adequacy were also discussed, including the commercial exploitation of natural gas deposits within the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone.
The meetings also covered the upcoming visit of government ministers to the United Arab Emirates, scheduled for later this month, to further discussions on energy and water project cooperation.
