Nicosia: Peace is built together, across generations and communities, UN in Cyprus said in a post on X following UN Peacekeeping Chief's meetings on the island Monday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Jean Pierre Lacroix is set to meet the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus Tuesday. His meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides is scheduled for 10 am local time.
In a post on X, the UN highlighted that Lacroix met with the diplomatic community, paid tribute to peacekeepers who have served with UNFICYP since 1964, and engaged with young Cypriots from both communities.
Additionally, the post mentioned that, together with Head of Mission, Khassim Diagne, and Nicosia's mayors Charalambos Prountzos and Mehmet Harmanci, Lacroix launched the global UN exhibition 'Through Her Lens: Women Rising for Peace'. This exhibition serves as a poignant reminder that peace is built together, across generations and communities.
Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 illegal invasion and occupation of the island. Numerous rounds of UN-backed talks aimed at reuniting the island under a federal structure have not yet yielded results.
