Nicosia: The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) has announced that the Department of Meteorology has issued an orange-level warning due to hazardous weather conditions. In response, the Department of Labour Inspection (DLI) has issued a directive to suspend certain outdoor activities today, Monday, 11 August 2025.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the suspension of work applies specifically between 12:00 and 16:00, affecting all outdoor heavy and moderate work. Additionally, the transportation and delivery of products using two-wheeled vehicles, such as motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, and personal mobility devices like scooters and e-scooters, are also prohibited. This includes the delivery of goods, food, and mail. These measures are applicable to inland areas with altitudes below 300 meters and more than 10 kilometers from the coastline, as well as higher mountainous regions above 1,150 meters.
In areas where the orange-level warning does not apply, light work may continue, provided that the necessary precautions outlined in the Code of Practice for the Thermal Stress of Workers are taken. The DLI emphasizes the importance of adhering to the Safety and Health at Work (Code of Practice for the Thermal Stress of Workers) (Amendment Order) of 2023, which remains in force during meteorological warnings for extremely high temperatures.
To mitigate thermal stress in both indoor and outdoor environments, the DLI advises implementing the provisions of the Code of Practice for the Thermal Stress of Workers, revised in 2020. For additional information, stakeholders can consult the DLI’s official website under the Thermal Stress section or contact the Inspectors at local District Offices.
