Nicosia: The Labour Inspection Department has mandated the suspension of outdoor work and deliveries from 12 noon to 4 pm on Monday in response to the heatwave and the orange warning issued by the Meteorology Department.
According to Cyprus News Agency, an official announcement states that all outdoor heavy and moderate work activities, including the transportation and delivery of products using two-wheeled vehicles or personal mobility devices, are prohibited during the specified hours. This suspension impacts areas below 300 meters in altitude, located more than 10 kilometers from the coastline, and the highest mountainous regions above 1150 meters in altitude.
For light work in regions where the orange risk alert does not apply, the Department of Labor Inspection advises employers and self-employed individuals to monitor temperature and humidity levels. Depending on the conditions, they must modify their work arrangements and ensure breaks to mitigate heat stress. Work can continue in cool, air-conditioned environments or under shade, with provisions for rotating employees and supplying cool water, suitable clothing, shade, and hats.
