Nicosia: Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palmas, categorically denied statements and reports on Sunday regarding missiles allegedly heading towards Cyprus to hit a target. Meanwhile, President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, convened a meeting of the National Security Council for Sunday afternoon, in the framework of the ongoing, close assessment of developments in the wider region and the coordination of the competent services.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Palmas emphasized that he refutes reports circulating regarding the interception of missiles heading towards Cyprus. Moreover, in a post on X, Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, commenting on statements and media reports referring to the launch of missiles towards the direction of Cyprus, clarified that "this is not the case and there is no indication whatsoever that any threat to the country has occurred".
"The competent authorities are closely monitoring the situation on a continuous basis," he added. In another post, the Spokesperson announced that the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, convened a meeting of the National Security Council at 17:00 local time, in the framework of the ongoing, close assessment of developments in the wider region and the coordination of the competent services.
