Meeting with UNSG in March of Particular Importance, Says President

Nicosia: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, said on Sunday that the meeting set for March with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, is of particular importance. He recalled that he had sent a letter to the Secretary-General some time ago and that a meeting was planned, through diplomatic channels, in March. He said that the dates would be announced when they are official decided.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the President noted that this meeting is of particular importance in order to resume the talks, to discuss the substance of the Cyprus issue through dialogue and to have a solution on the basis of the agreed framework. Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 illegal Turkish invasion. Repeated peace talks under the UN aegis have not yet yielded results for the reunification of the island under a federal roof.
