New Ferry “AF Marina” to Operate Cyprus-Greece Link This Year

Limassol: The Cyprus-Greece ferry service will commence this season with a new operator, the Italian-flagged ferry "AF Marina," which will replace the previous ferry "Daleela." Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hatzimanoli, announced at a press conference that the ferry will start its operations from Limassol on May 29th, concluding the season on September 1st with its final route from Piraeus back to Limassol.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Scandro Holding Ltd. will operate the ferry under a contractual obligation to complete 22 return trips this season. Notably, the company has maintained fare levels by securing fuel in advance of recent price hikes. Ticket reservations and purchases will be available starting April 22nd, with "AF Marina" promising enhanced services and amenities for its passengers.

Hatzimanoli highlighted improvements such as an increased number of cabins, all equipped with private facilities, and a higher passenger capacity. Special arrangements have been made for transporting pets, which will now travel in cabins rather than designated kennel areas, improving their travel experience significantly.

The Deputy Minister expressed optimism about the long-term viability of the ferry link, emphasizing ongoing service improvements aimed at boosting both public interest and engagement from the shipping industry. These efforts aspire to establish the ferry connection as a permanent, sustainable, and self-sufficient service.

Officers from the Deputy Ministries of Shipping and Tourism have inspected the ship's hotel facilities in Italy during its upgrade to ensure passenger safety and service quality. Built in 1994, "AF Marina" can accommodate 394 passengers and 290 vehicles, depending on vehicle size. It offers a variety of cabin options, including facilities for disabled passengers and those traveling with pets, as well as amenities like a restaurant, cafeteria, medical office, and casino.

Data indicates a positive trend in the ferry link's operation over the years, with notable increases in passenger numbers, disabled passengers, vehicle transport, and pet travel. A new cancellation policy has been introduced, offering no refunds except for port fees and imposing a fee for ticket modifications.
