Nicosia: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said on Sunday that Cyprus was a “close friend and an important partner in the Mediterranean region and the EU” as he embarked on his visit, which also includes Canada and Croatia.
According to Cyprus News Agency, India’s PM highlighted the opportunity to strengthen historical bonds and expand cooperation in various areas, as well as strengthen people-to-people exchanges with Cyprus. During his visit to Cyprus from June 15 to 16, 2025, at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides, PM Modi emphasized Cyprus’ role as a key partner in the Mediterranean and the European Union. The focus is on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, security, and technology. The visit also seeks to promote people-to-people exchanges, further strengthening the bond between India and Cyprus.
After Cyprus, PM Modi will attend the G7 Summit in Canada. The final leg of the tour includes a visit to Croatia, marking the first by an Indian Prime Minister. Upon his departure, Modi expressed enthusiasm for engaging with global leaders at the G7 Summit in Canada and fostering bilateral ties with Croatia. The tour, which began on June 15, 2025, reflects India’s commitment to addressing pressing global issues and amplifying the priorities of the Global South, he added.
His statement also indicated that the three-nation tour is an opportunity to thank partner countries for their steadfast support to India in its fight against cross-border terrorism.
