Kurds of Syria Protest in Nicosia Against Attacks in Rojava

Nicosia: Kurds residing in Cyprus staged a protest in Nicosia on Thursday calling for an end to the 'genocidal attacks against Rojava,' and marched to the House of Europe and the House of Representatives where they handed over a report regarding the current situation of the Kurds in Syria.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a statement issued by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) - Cyprus emphasized that "the free will of the Kurdish people is being targeted and their very existence is being attempted to be eliminated." A delegation of Kurds presented a report at the House of Europe in Nicosia to representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament. This report, created by the Kurdish National Council organization and entitled "Stop the war against the Kurds," highlighted the need to "Save Rojava - Kurdistan."

The protesters urged the European Union, the United Nations, and the international community to intervene and halt attacks against the Kurds. They referenced "war crimes" by the Turkish state and its militias, insisting that these acts must be prosecuted. They emphasized that "the re-establishment of ISIS must not be allowed."

The Kurdish community in Cyprus called for global support, voicing that "silence is complicity." They claimed that the political decisions for these attacks were initiated in Paris during meetings with al-Julani, and that the militias involved are organized by Erdogan and the Turkish state. They warned of a pattern of targeting minority groups, including Alevis, Druze, and Christians, and noted that thousands of ISIS prisoners were released by these militias.

Furthermore, they demanded the immediate establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to the city of Kobani and called for unhindered access for humanitarian organizations to deliver food, water, medical assistance, and emergency shelter. They also highlighted the urgent need for restoring basic services such as electricity, water, and telecommunications.

The protest concluded with a march to the House of Representatives to further express their demands.
