Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis Heads to Luxembourg for EU Justice Council

Luxembourg: Cyprus’s Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, departs for Luxembourg to participate in the meetings of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council, which will take place on June 12 and 13.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Justice stated that the agenda includes issues such as the regulation on the protection of adults, access to data for law enforcement purposes, the European Strategy for internal security, and the overall situation in the Schengen area. Discussions will focus on strengthening the resilience of the EU’s external borders and accelerating the digitization of procedures and systems.

During discussions on Schengen-related matters, Hartsiotis will have the opportunity to highlight the actions of the Republic of Cyprus, with the goal of achieving readiness for accession to the Schengen area in 2026.

On the sidelines of the Council, Hartsiotis will hold bilateral meetings with key figures such as Justice Commissioner Michael McGrath, Eurojust President Michael Schmid, and other European counterparts. The Minister will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry and is expected to return to Cyprus on Saturday, June 14.
