Nicosia: An uptick in hospital admissions related to influenza A following New Year's Eve has been reported by the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO). Charalambos Charilaou, the SHSO Press Spokesperson, informed the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that this increase is a regular occurrence during this time of year and should not be a cause for concern.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Charilaou highlighted that the rise in influenza A cases is expected between January and April each year, along with other seasonal viruses and infections. He reassured the public that this annual trend is not alarming. The healthcare system is prepared to manage the increased patient load in both Accident and Emergency Departments and hospital wards, Charilaou affirmed.
In response to inquiries about potential cases of overeating during the holidays, Charilaou denied any such incidents. He further explained the surge in visits to Accident and Emergency Departments, attributing it to the unavailability of personal doctors who were on leave during the holiday period.
Charilaou elaborated that the absence of private personal doctors and specialists led to a higher influx of patients to emergency services. Despite this, he assured that all cases were managed effectively. He also noted that the rapid patient movement clinics remained operational, ensuring that non-urgent cases were attended to promptly and patients departed with a sense of satisfaction.
