Nicosia: In 2024, 62.9% of people living in households with long-term care needs in Cyprus relied on professional homecare services, according to data published by Eurostat on Monday. This figure marks a significant increase from 2016 when 45.8% of individuals in similar situations depended on such services.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Eurostat's data positions Cyprus among the European Union Member States with the highest rates of professional homecare use. The island nation shares this distinction with Denmark, which reported a slightly higher rate of 63.5%, and Belgium at 52.9%.
Across the European Union as a whole, in 2024, 8.5% of people lived in households where at least one member required long-term care due to health problems, with 28.3% of these households receiving professional homecare services.
In contrast, the lowest shares of people receiving professional homecare services were observed in Estonia, Hungary, and Poland, with rates of 7.6%, 8.3%, and 8.5%, respectively.
