Nicosia: Greece is set to deploy 26 forest firefighters to Cyprus to aid in combating ongoing wildfires. The Hellenic Republic’s initiative aims to bolster the efforts of ground forces currently engaged in firefighting activities across the island.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Andreas Kettis, spokesperson for the Fire Service, announced the deployment through a post on X. Kettis stated that the team of forest firefighters, also referred to as commandos, will be dispatched to provide essential support at the wildfire fronts.
The firefighters are scheduled to depart from Elefsina Airport on a transport aircraft at approximately 16:00. This strategic deployment underscores the collaborative efforts between Greece and Cyprus in managing and mitigating the impact of wildfires.
