Nicosia: Six years after its implementation, Cyprus’ general health care system (GeSY) remains, undeniably, the most significant reform in the healthcare sector since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus, Health Minister Michael Damianos said in a post on X on Sunday, declaring that “GeSY is here to stay”.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Health Minister Damianos emphasized that GeSY is a major social achievement and highlighted the universal health coverage now available in Cyprus. He noted that the unmet medical care needs are extremely low, marking a successful milestone for the system.
Damianos cautioned against complacency, emphasizing the ongoing evaluation of the system to continuously improve it and address any weaknesses. He revealed that a series of laws have been promoted to reinforce GeSY. Efforts are underway to enhance the daily experience for citizens in hospitals, with practical measures like the operation of Fast Track Clinics in A and E departments.
The Health Minister reaffirmed that GeSY’s permanence is not just a slogan but a reality, emphasizing that its protection and enhancement are non-negotiable.
