EU Allocates £202 Million to Support Palestinian Services and UNRWA

Brussels: The European Commission has committed a total of £202 million in aid to bolster essential services in Palestine, supporting both the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Near East (UNRWA). This funding is part of the Comprehensive and Multiannual Programme for Palestine’s Recovery and Resilience.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the allocation includes £150 million directed towards the Palestinian Authority. This substantial financial support aims to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of crucial public services, including the payment of salaries for teachers, civil servants, and healthcare workers. Additionally, the funding is aligned with the Palestinian Authority’s commitment to implementing a reform agenda. Meanwhile, UNRWA will receive £52 million to facilitate the provision of vital services, such as education, primary healthcare, and relief assistance to Palestinian refugees residing in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and host countries including Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

Dubravka €š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦ uica, Commissioner for the Mediterranean, emphasized the EU’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people, stating that this latest disbursement reaffirms the EU’s political and financial commitment to the region. The Commissioner highlighted the EU’s broader assistance package, which underscores the importance of UNRWA’s dual role as both a humanitarian and development actor. The EU remains deeply concerned about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the deteriorating conditions in the West Bank, reiterating its commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace through a negotiated Two-State solution.

These disbursements represent the initial phase of a larger £1.6 billion support package for 2025-2027, as outlined during the EU – Palestinian Authority High-Level Political Dialogue in April 2025. Further information about the EU’s support to the Palestinian people is available online.
