Efforts to Reactivate Humanitarian Aid Flow to Gaza Underway, Cypriot FM Says

Nicosia: The Republic of Cyprus continues its efforts in relation to the reactivation of humanitarian aid flow to Gaza, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kompos said on Monday, noting that this requires consultation with Israel. Responding to journalists following his meeting with his Albanian counterpart Igli Hasani, Kombos said that Nicosia’s approach is based on an active stance, “which can yield some positive result on the ground at a practical level.” He noted that this requires consultation with countries with which Cyprus had cooperation in the past.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos added that various issues concerning practical aspects of the provision of aid, such as the collection of aid, must be addressed, and noted that everything “is subject to the situation on the ground, which concerns a number of parameters, security issues.” He emphasized the urgency of reactivating the aid flow and expressed belief in its necessity, though he admitted he could not be more specific about the aspects of this prospect at the moment.

“But I can confirm that our efforts continue, will continue, the needs are there, they are a given, and our will to do something substantial on the field, on the ground, is something that has already been implemented in the recent past, no matter if some do not want to accept or recognize it,” Kombos added. He also addressed the necessity of Israeli cooperation, noting that any plan involving the sending of humanitarian aid from Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, or elsewhere would require consultation with Israel, as “it practically cannot be done otherwise.”
